Germany has committed €65 million, or roughly GH¢823 million, to help Ghana’s development cooperation in the areas of technical training, youth employment, and renewable energy.
On Monday, November 3, 2025, at a joint news briefing with President John Dramani Mahama at Jubilee House in Accra, Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the president of the Federal Republic of Germany, made the announcement.
As part of Germany’s long-standing relationship with Ghana in sustainable development, Mr. Steinmeier, the German President, stated through an interpreter that the commitment is contingent to confirmation by the Bundestag, the German Parliament.
“We have been able to bring good tidings today. Germany will again commit more than 65 million euros to Ghana in the framework of our development cooperation, the details will be negotiated before the end of this month.” Mr. Steinmeier stated.
According to him, the funds will support current initiatives in youth skills training, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. He went on to say that both nations are collaborating to create the framework for long-term economic expansion that will benefit both Germany and Ghana.
Mr. Steinmeier claimed that throughout his conversations with President Mahama, youth education and career training were major topics.
He mentioned that in order to help Ghanaian youngsters find respectable employment, Germany is funding training in the fields of health, pharmaceuticals, and digital technology.
“We are very active when it comes to educating and training the young generation. We want to provide decent jobs for them,” he stated.
During his fourth trip to Ghana, the German leader also declared that the two nations had decided to hold frequent high-level political discussions to improve collaboration in the fields of trade, security, and climate change.
Under Ghana’s Resetting Ghana Agenda, President Mahama characterised Germany as a strong and trustworthy partner, adding that the new commitment represents a common interest in advancing digital transformation, renewable energy, and youth empowerment.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which has its headquarters in Accra, will continue to offer a favourable climate for German private sector investment, he said.
Mr. Steinmeier’s three-day state visit continues with visits to the Ashanti Region to examine Ghana-German collaboration initiatives in technical and vocational education and training, as well as discussions with young IT entrepreneurs in Accra.
