John Dramani Mahama, the leader of Ghana’s main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prepare to answer to the people for their stewardship.
Indicating that the Akufo-Addo-led government has failed Ghanaians, Mr. Mahama said that the impending elections in 2024 will give voters another chance to choose who will lead their country.
The NDC flagbearer stated, “However abysmal and appalling the performance of a government is, the people have the opportunity to make a change at the next elections,” in a post-election acceptance address given on Monday, May 15, 2023.
It is obvious that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has fallen short of the expectations of the Ghanaian people. He should get ready to resign at the next election, and they should begin drafting their handing over letters and preparing to answer to the people of Ghana for their stewardship.
Mr. Mahama emphasized his confidence in the NDC’s capacity to improve Ghanaians’ current situation and turn around the nation’s fortunes.
“Yes, our nation has reason for hope. I firmly believe in our party’s potential to lead a progressive program that brings back decent values and rekindles youthful ambitions.
In addition, if granted the go-ahead by Ghanaians to lead the nation, he vowed an administration that will promote equality.
Ours will be a progressive administration that offers everyone the chance to live decent, sustainable lives.
He said, “I’m convinced that by working together with Ghanaians we shall turn Ghana’s hopelessness and gloom today into a brighter tomorrow.”
