An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to a painter who is accused of stealing electrical cables from the new Bank of Ghana facility at Ridge.

Ahmed Mohammed Lawal was granted GH¢1 million in bail with two sureties.

Mr. Isaac Addo, the relieving judge, directed the prosecution to abide by the disclosure guidelines.

It has been postponed until May 7, 2025.

Lawal is accused of breaking and entering and taking GH¢1,035,500 worth of electrical cables.

The charge has been refuted by the accused.

The court was previously informed by the prosecution, which was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agustin Kingsley Oppong, that the complainants in the case, Davidson Mensah Otinkorang and Samuel Nii Tettey, were an electrical engineer and a safety officer at the newly constructed Bank of Ghana Building, respectively.

According to the prosecution, on February 16, 2025, the complainant discovered that someone had entered the Energy Farm on the property and taken quantities of copper wires measuring one square meter by 240 and one square meter by 300, which were all worth GH¢1,035,500.

In order to review the Close-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage showing the accused and two other people stealing copper cables from the Energy Farm, the prosecution informed the court that it was necessary. Electrical cable bundles were stored there.

The prosecutor claims that the accused was apprehended by the complainants and turned over to the police.

Investigations showed that the accused and two other people at large used a scaffold to enter the Energy Farm, where they used a sharp tool to cut the copper lines and then took them away.

Investigations further revealed that the accused sold the cables to a person at Kwame Nkrumah Circle for GH¢2,000.

Lawal failed to get the police to detain the accused “dishonest receiver” and his accomplices.
