The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has disclosed that it spent approximately $1.26 million to procure 2,922 tickets for Ghana’s matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The tickets were secured for the Black Stars’ three group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia at the upcoming FIFA World Cup tournament.
According to the Ministry, 948 tickets were purchased for Ghana’s opening match against Panama, while 1,000 tickets were secured for the game against England. A further 974 tickets were procured for Ghana’s fixture against Croatia.
Ghana World Cup Tickets Not for Sale
Speaking before Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee on Thursday, September 17, 2026, Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams explained that the tickets were not purchased for commercial resale.
He said the total expenditure included a 10% administrative charge approved by FIFA, which was added to the face value of the tickets.
“We spent about $1.26 million in the procurement of the 2,922 tickets,” Mr Adams told the committee.
For the Ghana vs Panama fixture, the Ministry purchased 100 Category One tickets. Each ticket had a FIFA face value of $450, increasing to $495 after the 10% administrative charge.
The Ministry also procured various supporter ticket categories, including supporter premium, supporter standard, supporter value and supporter entry tickets, with prices determined by their respective FIFA face values and the applicable administrative charge.
For Ghana’s highly anticipated World Cup match against England, the Ministry purchased 1,000 tickets. This included 100 Category One tickets priced at a FIFA face value of $600, with the final cost rising to $660 after the administrative charge.
For the Ghana-Croatia group-stage encounter, 974 tickets were procured, including 100 Category One tickets with a face value of $500 and an actual cost of $550 after the 10% FIFA-approved charge.
How Ghana’s World Cup Tickets Will Be Distributed
Mr Adams said the tickets will be distributed among several groups connected to Ghana’s participation and support at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Beneficiaries include members of the Ghana Supporters Union, Ghana’s High Commissions in Canada and the United States, Ghanaians living abroad, the Ghana Students Association, the official government delegation and selected officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The Sports Minister explained that the original plan was to allocate more than 800 tickets to supporters, with the remaining tickets distributed to other Ghanaians.
However, challenges associated with visa applications at some visa application centres affected the initial arrangements.
As a result, the Ministry decided to allocate a larger number of the Ghana World Cup tickets to Ghanaians who are already living in the diaspora and are therefore able to attend the matches without facing the same visa-related difficulties.
“The decision was taken that we will give many more of the tickets to Ghanaians who are already in the diaspora to be able to pay,” Mr Adams told Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee.
The disclosure comes as preparations continue for Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with attention focused on the Black Stars, ticket distribution, supporter arrangements and the country’s overall participation in the global football tournament.
