The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is rolling out its Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) as part of efforts to modernise Ghana’s tax system and move key tax administration processes onto a single digital platform.
The new GRA digital tax system is expected to improve taxpayer services, strengthen tax compliance and enable the authority to make more effective use of taxpayer and revenue data.
GRA Introduces Integrated Digital Tax System
The development was disclosed during the latest edition of the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) and PwC Ghana Quarterly Tax Dialogue Series, held under the theme “Navigating GRA’s Digital Tax Systems.”
Speaking at the event, Commissioner of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division of the GRA, Dr. Martin Kolbil Yamborigya, explained that ITAS is designed to bring the different stages of the tax administration process together on one integrated platform.
According to him, the system will provide a unified digital environment covering the full tax cycle, helping to streamline tax administration in Ghana.
ITAS to Replace Legacy Tax Systems
Dr. Yamborigya said the Integrated Tax Administration System forms part of the GRA’s broader digital transformation programme.
The initiative will replace separate legacy systems with a single integrated tax administration platform, allowing tax-related processes and information to be managed more efficiently.
The digital transformation is also being implemented in line with international tax administration standards, with the objective of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Ghana’s tax system.
Benefits of GRA’s Digital Tax Transformation
The deployment of ITAS is expected to provide several benefits for Ghanaian taxpayers and businesses, including improved access to tax services, enhanced compliance monitoring and better management of tax information.
The increased use of digital tools and data could also help the Ghana Revenue Authority identify compliance gaps and improve tax revenue collection.
The ITAS rollout forms part of wider efforts to build a more efficient, transparent and technology-driven tax administration system in Ghana.
As Ghana continues to expand digital public services, the GRA’s integrated tax platform is expected to play an important role in improving taxpayer experience, tax compliance and domestic revenue mobilisation.
