Joyce Bawah Mogtari, former President John Dramani Mahama’s Presidential Advisor and Special Aide, has demanded GH₵10 million in compensation and an unconditional apology from Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for allegedly making defamatory remarks.
Mrs. Mogtari accuses Abronye of making “false, reckless, and malicious” allegations in an interview on Net 2 TV on March 26, 2025, in a legal notice sent by R.O. Solomon Consulting on April 3, 2025.
The notification states that during the program, Abronye asserted that Mrs. Mogtari had turned down a ministry job in favor of a “stress-free presidential staffer position” that paid GHS95,000 per month. He further said that she was “disrespectful to Ghanaians” as a result of this choice.
The legal team argues that Mrs. Mogtari has suffered “serious embarrassment,” public mockery, and reputational harm as a result of these allegations, which have subsequently been extensively shared online, particularly on sites like GhanaWeb.
The letter also emphasizes that since information about Mrs. Mogtari’s appointment is publicly accessible and verifiable, Abronye’s accusations were not only factually false but also easily refutable.
The following is what Mrs. Mogtari’s legal team is requesting in response:
- All media outlets that broadcast the news, including GhanaWeb, MyJoyOnline, Channel One TV, Citi FM, and Net 2 TV, should immediately retract the comments and issue a public apology.
- GH₵10 million in reparations for the distress and damage to one’s reputation.
