John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) newest 2024 flagbearer, has won the party’s presidential primaries and recently paid tribute to former president Jerry John Rawlings.

He also paid tribute to former vice president Kwesi Amissah Arthur and former president John Evans Atta Mills by dedicating the win to them. And to all the party comrades who, before their deaths, contributed to establishing the NDC’s political heritage.

On Monday, May 15, 2023, he was giving his acceptance speech at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale. Mr. Mahama remarked, “With profound gratitude I humbly accept to be the President Candidate of the NDC.” He then expressed his gratitude for once again being chosen to lead the NDC.

I dedicate this victory to the party’s founder, Jerry John Rawlings, to my late boss and mentor, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, to my former vice president Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, and to the many thousands of our senior comrades who toiled to create this political tradition that we now have the honor of leading.

He thanked the party’s “kingmaers” for their support and unwavering belief that he is the most qualified individual with the necessary expertise and vision to lead the NDC to victory in 2024.

He expressed gratitude for and acknowledged the contributions made by Mr. Ernest Kobia, Mr. Kojo Bonsu, and Dr. Kwebena Duffuor in advancing the internal democratic institutions of the NDC.

He also expressed his gratitude to the District Election Directors, Dr. Sereboa Quicoee, and the Electoral Commission for their efforts in making the primaries a resounding success.

In order to create the Ghana that Ghanaians desire, Mr. Mahama asserted that the NDC must triumph in the upcoming election. He also promised to guide the party to a resounding victory in December 2024.

He claims that the Ghanaian people and the development of a society that enables citizens to live good and dignified lives are what the triumph is really about, not John Mahama.

In order for our mothers and sisters to continue carrying out their biological duty of procreation, it is important to increase access to healthcare.

It is about the young children whose bright future is ruined by a perilous boat journey in order to pursue an education.

It also involves handling our economy and finances in a way that avoids appropriating the lifelong savings of our middle-class and senior individuals who have retired.

His triumph, he claimed, is about fostering love and respect for the name Ghana and increasing security, investments, and funds for future generations rather than merely for day-to-day expenditure.
