President John Dramani Mahama has welcomed global leaders and international development partners to a high-level event on the Accra Reset held on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The gathering brought together representatives from France, Spain, the United Kingdom, the Group of 77 (G77), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Commonwealth to discuss global development and the next phase of the Accra Reset initiative.
President Mahama expressed particular appreciation to former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown for his role in mobilising international political support around what the Accra Reset describes as a New Global Bargain.
The event forms part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation and promote a more balanced approach to global development, particularly for countries in Africa and the wider Global South.
The Accra Reset initiative, launched in 2025, has focused initially on health sovereignty, while expanding into broader issues including development financing, skills, trade, partnerships and national capacity.
The New York gathering also featured the launch of the report “A Sovereign Future for Health,” which presents recommendations aimed at strengthening global health systems and national capacity.
The high-level engagement comes as Ghana participates in the 81st UN General Assembly, where President Mahama is also scheduled to deliver Ghana’s official statement during the General Debate on September 24, 2026.
