Members of Parliament’s Minority Caucus marched in protest on Wednesday to the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to deliver a petition on the unresolved results of the parliamentary election in Ablekuma North, which is located in the Greater Accra area.
Ablekuma North residents are still unrepresented in Parliament six months after the general elections of 2024, a circumstance that the minority claims jeopardizes democratic government and electoral transparency.
Minority MPs claim that the march is an expression of support for the residents of Ablekuma North and a call for immediate action to end the impasse.

Speaking to reporters at the Police Headquarters on Wednesday, June 4, Frank Annoh Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip, urged the police to safeguard the EC so that the results could be announced.
“The absence of a declared MP for Ablekuma North constitutes a serious violation of the constitutional right to representation guaranteed under the 1992 constitution,” he added.
Last month, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police, ordered the Electoral Commission to give the National Security Taskforce a clear path for compiling the results of the parliamentary election in Ablekuma North.
“This will help the police provide adequate security for the operation and help ease the apparent tense atmosphere,” the IGP said during a May 8 meeting with the team and Commission representatives.
The NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn and the NPP’s Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie are running for the Ablekuma North parliamentary seat.
The Ghana Police Service’s pledge that the results of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election would be protected was still pending, according to the EC.
The Returning Officer is unable to examine the results and decide on the winner until the police have given the required security guarantee.
