Former Energy Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice presidential candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has disclosed that he is under investigation by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
The inquiry, according to the former Education Minister, concerned his time at the Ministry of Education.
In an interview with reporters in Accra on June 4, 2025, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, revealed that he had received two invitations from the NIB to help with questions about his tenure.
“As I speak to you now, I have been invited by the NIB on two different occasions to answer some questions from my time as Education Minister—some issues I don’t even remember. But the records are there to show,” he stated.
President John Dramani Mahama’s new administration has just started looking into the actions of past government appointees.
Numerous security organizations have started looking into historical transactions from the previous administration.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is investigating Bernard Antwi Boasiako, better known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, for suspected money laundering and corruption, in addition to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that 33 charges of corruption and associated offenses against former government appointees are presently being investigated by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
The Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team, an anti-corruption task group that President Mahama formed following his election victory in 2024, is the source of these instances.
Information about suspected corruption, especially under the previous administration, was to be gathered by the team and sent to the relevant state agencies for action.
