Five presidential candidates who want to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections are expected to start the vetting process.

All candidates will appear before the party’s Vetting Committee as part of the exercise to demonstrate their eligibility, preparedness, and competence to run for flagbearership.

In order to make sure that all candidates fulfill the standards outlined in the party’s constitution, the vetting process is an essential step in the lead-up to the primaries.

Additionally, it gives the committee a chance to evaluate each candidate’s leadership, message, and vision.

It is anticipated that the candidates, who have already selected and filed their nomination papers, will discuss their qualifications, political background, and party goals in the event that they are elected.

With all five candidates, the process is anticipated to wrap up today with the vetting of former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.

Former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia round out the group.

Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s general secretary, stated that the NPP is still dedicated to an open and equitable procedure that will eventually fortify internal democracy. He gave supporters and members his word that the committee would carry out its responsibilities in an unbiased manner.

Since the party’s choice of flagbearer has the potential to drastically alter the political environment leading up to the 2028 elections, the vetting is anticipated to spark intense public attention.

On January 31, 2026, the NPP will hold its presidential primary. The victor would then formally lead the party’s campaign into the national elections.
