As part of amended timetables for several of the scheduled activities leading up to the Presidential and Orphan constituency primaries, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will start screening its presidential candidates starting on Monday, July 3, 2023.
Following the issue of a news release by the Electoral Commission and the Party’s preparation for the Assin North by-elections, the Emergency Steering Committee of the party reached the decision.
The NPP has announced that the vetting of potential presidential candidates will take place from July 3 to July 6, 2023.
On Monday, July 10, 2023, the Vetting Committee’s Report will be submitted to the National Council via the General Secretary, and on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the Steering Committee will publish the Vetting Committee’s Report.
If there are any petitions to the National Presidential Appeals Committee (NPAC), submission of petitions will take place from Wednesday, July 12 through Friday, July 14, 2023.
There will be a meeting of the National Presidential Appeals Committee (NPAC) on Monday, July 17, and Tuesday, July 18.
Additionally, on Thursday, July 20, the National Council and National Executive Committee (NEC) will meet. On Friday, July 21, 2023, the qualified presidential aspirants’ names will be published.
The first Notice of Poll will be published on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, and voting for positions on the ballot will take place on Monday, July 24, 2023.
If there is a Special Electoral College, there will be a National Congress on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
On Monday, August 28, 2023, reports on the operation of the Special Electoral College would be given to the National Council via the General Secretary.
On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, there will be another balloting for the top five qualified candidates. The Super Delegates Congress will come next, reducing from 10 to 5 the number of candidates vying to represent the party in the 2024 presidential elections.
The day after, on Thursday, August 31, the final Notice of Poll will be released.
There will be a National Congress on Saturday, November 4, 2023, and, if necessary, a run-off on Saturday, November 11, 2023.
The sale of nomination forms for orphan constituencies will begin on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, and run until Thursday, August 10. Finally, elections (on a case-by-case basis) will be held from Saturday, September 1 to Sunday, December 2, 2023. The party pleaded with all interested parties to support the primaries.
