After Speaker Alban Bagbin delivered the order paper for the day’s activities, Parliament adjourned its session on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
In accordance with Standing Order 59, Speaker Bagbin adjourned the House indefinitely after pointing out that there was not a quorum to perform official business.
In order to resolve serious government issues, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus had petitioned for an immediate recall, which prompted the call for the session.
The caucus cited Standing Order 58 and Article 112(3) of the Constitution, which require the Speaker to call a meeting of Parliament within seven days for urgent matters.
The opposition members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were the only MPs in the chamber, though, as the NPP members did not show up for the day’s events.
Following a deadlock over Speaker Bagbin’s recent decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant, Parliament has postponed twice.
