Police arrest a suspect in connection with the shooting at Adjin Kotoku Onion Market

A suspect in the shooting incident at the Adjen Kotoku Onion Market in Accra has been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service.

The April 5, 2026, event led to increased security measures in the region.

Imoro Asutam, chairman of the Onion Sellers Association, clarified that some Nigerian dealers tried to sell more onions in violation of established market agreements, which set off the turmoil.

He pointed out that this infuriated several young people in the area and caused the altercation.

An anonymous source opened fire during the altercation, frightening vendors and onlookers.

According to police, an intelligence-led operation was carried out by a group of surveillance officers from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations branch.

The crew captured the suspect, 40-year-old Inusah Seidu, at his hideout in Adjin Kotoku on April 8 at around 3:00 pm. It is thought that he contributed to the disturbance.

Currently being held by the police, the suspect is helping with investigations.

Other people connected to the incident are still being sought after and arrested, according to the police.
