During a follow-up operation at a shrine in the Juaboso area, police detained a suspected ringleader of a seven-member armed gang that attacked miners at Antobia early on Monday.

Alex Owusu, the complainant, claims that on November 17, 2025, at around two in the morning, seven young males wearing masks and armed with pump-action and single-barrel firearms invaded their mining site.

According to reports, the intruders used cutlasses to assault the miners and stole their cell phones and black gold concentrate.

Owusu reported to the police that a few of the robbers had distinctive attire, such as military camouflage shirts and smocks adorned with talismans.

Following the report, authorities tracked one of the stolen cell phones with the help of a private cyber specialist.

The signal directed them to a shrine in the Juaboso enclave’s cottage village of Attakrom.

Victor Biney, also known as “Abeiku,” is the owner of the shrine and is currently being prosecuted by the Bibiani Circuit Court on several robbery and murder allegations.

A comprehensive investigation of the shrine in front of witnesses revealed a stash of weapons and objects thought to be connected to the heist, despite the fact that the suspect was not present when the police arrived.

One single-barrel rifle, two cutlasses, a pair of handcuffs, a military camouflage clothing, and forehead flashlights were among the items.

The remaining materials include a pump-action pistol butt, five smocks, a plastic basin filled with mercury and gold concentrate particles, and seventeen AAA live cartridges.

The police station received all of the exhibits.

Officers saw Biney on the road on their way back from the operation and took him into custody.

He allegedly recognised and acknowledged being the owner of the gun, cartridges, handcuffs, flashlights, smocks, cutlasses, camouflage clothes, and other recovered goods at the station.

The victims and complaint also attested to the fact that the thieves used the military camouflage shirt, three flashlights, mercury, gold concentrate particles, and three smocks among the things recovered.

Biney was remanded into police custody after being arraigned before the Juaboso District Court later that day, November 17, 2025.

On December 8, 2025, he is anticipated to make another appearance.

All exhibits have been secured, the accused is still in custody, and efforts are being made to find and apprehend the remaining accomplices, according to the police.

As investigations continue, more updates are anticipated.
