The Ghana Police Service has warned motorists and vehicle owners to be alert to fraudulent traffic fine notifications following the official rollout of the TraffiTech-GH automated traffic enforcement system on November 1, 2026.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, the Police explained that the new electronic traffic enforcement initiative is designed to automate the monitoring and enforcement of road traffic regulations across the country.
The Service urged motorists to follow approved procedures when checking traffic violation notices and making payments to avoid falling victim to scammers.
How to Identify Genuine TraffiTech-GH Traffic Fines
According to the Police, motorists should first verify that traffic violation notifications originate from the official sender ID, GPS-MTTD.
The Service cautioned that legitimate traffic fine notifications would not be sent through ordinary mobile phone numbers.
Motorists have also been advised to open their Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) or traffic tickets and carefully examine the information provided.
The details to verify include:
- The photograph of the vehicle involved in the alleged traffic violation.
- The vehicle’s registration number.
- The location where the offence allegedly occurred.
- The date and time of the reported traffic violation.
- The accompanying video evidence, where available.
The Police stressed that checking these details before making payments would help motorists identify suspicious notifications and avoid fraudulent transactions.
How to Pay TraffiTech-GH Traffic Fines in Ghana
The Ghana Police Service has indicated that motorists can settle genuine traffic fines through the National Investment Bank (NIB) Payment Portal or an approved USSD payment platform.
For online payments, motorists are required to visit the official TraffiTech-GH website and follow these steps:
- Select the ‘Make Payment’ option.
- Enter the traffic ticket number.
- Verify the displayed traffic violation details.
- Follow the payment instructions to complete the transaction.
Alternatively, motorists can dial *710*0# on their mobile phones and follow the prompts to make payments using their traffic ticket numbers.
Police Warn Against Paying Traffic Fines to Personal MoMo Numbers
The Police have issued a strong warning against transferring traffic fine payments to personal Mobile Money (MoMo) numbers or making payments through unofficial accounts.
Motorists and vehicle owners have been encouraged to use only the authorised payment channels to prevent financial losses and protect themselves against online fraud.
For complaints, assistance or further enquiries concerning TraffiTech-GH traffic violations and payments, the public can contact the Ghana Police Service on 0596922402.
The Service expressed appreciation to motorists, vehicle owners and transport operators for their cooperation as Ghana strengthens automated traffic monitoring, road safety enforcement and compliance with traffic regulations.
