President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Arusha, Tanzania, in advance of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights’ Judicial Year commencing.

President Mahama, who is the Special Guest of Honour, will be the first president of Ghana to speak before the continental court.

The inaugural event will also commemorate the court’s 20th anniversary, with the theme being “20 Years of Service in Protecting Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa.”

At the Kilimanjaro International Airport, he was greeted by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kom, as well as other officials, such as H.E. Paul Evans Aidoo, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Kenya with additional responsibility to Tanzania, and Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, a Supreme Court judge who also serves on the African Court.

Prior to the court proceedings, the president is scheduled to meet with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Monday morning.

The time of his keynote speech is 9.15 a.m. (Ghana Time).

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the president’s advisor and special assistant, and Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew, the legal counsel, are with the president.
