Criminal elements targeting members of the Ghana Police Service and other law enforcement authorities have received a harsh warning from President John Dramani Mahama, who has declared that such crimes will be dealt with brutal and decisive response.
The President voiced serious concerns about recent attacks on security officials at a speech at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, January 8, following the presentation of 100 pickup trucks to bolster police operations across the country.
He warned that there will be nowhere to hide for anyone who try to harm or murder police officers.
“There will be no hiding place for criminal elements. Especially those who seek to either injure or kill our police officers and other security officers, we shall come after you and deal with you very ruthlessly when we catch up with you,” President Mahama stated.
The President recalled a recent memorial service honouring police officers who have died while performing their duties over the previous year, pointing out that many of them were murdered by armed robbers and other criminal groups.
“Recently, we attended a memorial event to honour police officers who had lost their lives in the line of duty in the last one year, and several of them had been shot either by armed robbers or other criminal elements,” he said.
President Mahama emphasised that the state would react forcefully to any assault on law enforcement officers.
“I want to serve notice that the police will deal very ruthlessly with anybody who harms, injures, or kills a police officer,” he described the declaration as a clear warning to criminals nationwide, saying, “We will hunt them down and neutralise them.”
Additionally, he reiterated his government’s dedication to providing ongoing operational and logistical support to the Ghana Police Service.
The President highlighted his administration’s commitment to retooling the Police by recalling previous actions, such as the transfer of 40 armoured vehicles to the Service in December 2025.
He declared, “I made a clear commitment to the nation that this government will continue to retool the service, not with words but with action.”
In order to ensure public safety, uphold law and order, and safeguard policemen who put their lives in danger while serving their country, President Mahama stated that increasing police capacity is still essential.
