Residents of La in Accra have staged a demonstration against the demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach, urging President John Dramani Mahama and the government to intervene and help restore the livelihoods of affected traders and workers.

The protest, known as “Aaagbe Wɔ Demo,” was organised by the Ga-Dangme Progressive Front to express residents’ concerns over the demolition exercise and its impact on people who depend on the beach for their daily income.

Titus Glover Appeals to Mahama Over La Demolition

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser Titus Glover, who addressed the demonstrators, appealed to President Mahama to intervene and allow the affected traders to return to the site to resume their businesses.

He called on the government to consider the rights and welfare of the affected Ga-Dangme residents, stressing the economic difficulties facing traders and workers who have lost their sources of income following the demolition.

Speaking during the demonstration, Glover conveyed the concerns of the Ga-Dangme youth and appealed for presidential intervention to help restore the traders’ livelihoods.

“We, the youth of the Ga-Dangme people, are saying that enough is enough. So we want to register our plea with the President to intervene and get the traders back to the place,” he said.

Why Were Structures at La Pleasure Beach Demolished?

The demolition was carried out by National Security operatives on Friday, October 2, 2026, following a request by Labadi Beach Hotel, which is owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

The exercise has raised concerns among traders, workers and other residents who rely on commercial activities at La Pleasure Beach for their livelihoods.

Some affected business operators say the demolition has disrupted their operations, leaving them without their usual source of income. They are therefore appealing to the government and relevant authorities to reconsider their situation and permit them to return to the beach.

Affected Traders Seek Government Intervention

The demonstrators are calling for urgent measures to address the economic impact of the demolition and help affected workers and business owners resume their activities.

The protest has also brought renewed attention to discussions about local employment, livelihoods, land-related concerns and the protection of economic opportunities for communities in Accra.

The affected traders are hopeful that intervention by President Mahama and the relevant authorities will lead to a resolution that addresses their concerns and allows them to rebuild their businesses.
