The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George (Sam George), has held talks with the French Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Diarra Dime-Labille, on strengthening bilateral cooperation in Ghana’s telecommunications and digital technology sectors.
The meeting focused on strategies to expand affordable and reliable internet connectivity across Ghana while improving access to digital services. Sam George highlighted the importance of developing telecommunications solutions that take into account the economic conditions of ordinary Ghanaians.
The discussions also addressed ways to improve access to mobile data, broadcasting services and digital infrastructure, as the government continues efforts to advance Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
Another key issue was the potential for increased foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ghana’s digital economy. Sam George reiterated the government’s commitment to building a competitive, transparent and investor-friendly digital sector capable of attracting international investment and improving the quality of telecommunications services.
The Minister and the French Ambassador further discussed measures to combat digital disinformation and misinformation, particularly as Ghana continues to experience rapid growth in internet and social media usage.
They also explored opportunities for greater collaboration ahead of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) scheduled for November, with both sides expressing interest in deepening cooperation on digital governance, telecommunications development and emerging technology.
The engagement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana-France digital cooperation, attract investment into the technology sector and promote wider access to affordable digital services for Ghanaians.
