The first delivery of Jubilee crude oil for domestic processing at the Sentuo Oil Refinery in Tema is a major turning point in Ghana’s industrial and energy growth.
While lowering dependency on imported refined petroleum products, the development is anticipated to further the nation’s aspirations toward energy self-sufficiency, value addition, and industrial growth.
Ningquan Xu, Executive Chairman of Sentuo Group, called the start of domestic refining of Jubilee crude a historic event in Ghana’s economic transformation path while speaking during a crude oil berthing ceremony.
“For many years, Ghana exported crude oil while importing refined petroleum products. We exported value and imported dependency,” Xu stated.
He said that domestic refining of Ghana’s crude oil would increase economic value retention, provide jobs, and improve the nation’s energy security.

He claims that the action signifies a change toward optimising the advantages of Ghana’s natural resources through domestic industrialisation and processing.
Additionally, Xu stated that on June 24, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to conduct the sod-cutting ceremony for Phase Two of the Sentuo Refinery Expansion Project.
It is projected that the expansion project will greatly boost the refinery’s processing capacity and generate thousands of new employment in the petroleum industry and allied industries.
According to the firm, Ghana is now in a position to become a significant center for trading and processing petroleum for West Africa and the larger Sahel region.
Xu emphasised the importance of the accomplishment, stating that the start of local Jubilee crude refining would be seen as a watershed in the nation’s industrial and economic growth.
“History will remember this moment as the day Ghana refined more of its own resources for its own development,” he declared.
Sentuo Oil Refinery’s refining activities have begun as Ghana continues to implement policies meant to increase value addition within important economic sectors, develop energy infrastructure, and boost local production.
