Sir Sam Jonah has denied rumors that he may run as former President John Mahama’s running mate in the next 2024 election.

In response to the allegations, the former Ashanti Goldfields Company Limited CEO stated that he had no desire to enter the political arena. “Anyone familiar with me would affirm that I harbour no inclination whatsoever to enter the murky world of politics,” Sir Jonah said in an exclusive statement to Metro TV’s “Good Evening Ghana.”

He also said that in the 1990s, he turned down invitations to serve as Vice President under former President Jerry John Rawlings. “In fact, if I had been interested, I would have taken the job on a silver platter in 1992 and 1996,” he emphasized.

According to several media sites, Mr. Jonah could be the running partner for National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama. Sir Jonah, on the other hand, condemned these claims as “baseless speculation.”

Sir Sam Jonah, a global business hero, took over as CEO of Ashanti Goldfields Company Limited in 1986, leading the company’s development from a single-mine operation to a multinational conglomerate.

Ashanti became the first African operational firm to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1996, after already been listed in London and Ghana.

In May 2004, Sir Jonah was appointed Executive President of AngloGold Ashanti Ltd, the world’s second-largest gold producer, following the merger of Ashanti and AngloGold Limited.

Sir Jonah’s extraordinary achievements have been recognized with several distinctions and accolades. Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth, bestowed upon him an Honorary Knighthood as Knight Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) in 2003.

In addition, he received Ghana’s highest national accolade, the Companion of the Order of the Star, in 2006. CNN and Time Magazine both named him one of the world’s 25 most influential business people in December 2004, praising his contributions to management, ethics, marketing, and innovation on a worldwide scale.

Sir Sam Jonah’s impact and legacy continue to echo across industries, having received five Lifetime Achievement awards, the most recent being the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
