SOS Children’s Villages Ghana Enhances Cooperation With the Ministry of Gender

The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Honourable Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, received a courtesy call from a delegation from SOS Children’s Villages Ghana, led by its National Director, Alexander Mar Kekula, and Board Chairman, Christian Appiah, in order to strengthen cooperation and identify areas of mutual support.

The delegation emphasised that the organization’s primary goal is to safeguard and care for children who have lost their parents.

Alternative care systems, family-strengthening initiatives, children’s reintegration into their families and communities, and youth empowerment via education and skill development were among the important interventions they described.

Additionally, strategies to prevent family separation were discussed, including helping out-of-school children return to school and strengthening the ability of disadvantaged households to provide their children with necessary care.

For her part, the Minister highlighted the government’s dedication to bolstering social safety nets.

The shock-responsive social protection strategy, which aims to support vulnerable households during times of crisis, the ongoing efforts to expand the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Program through reassessment to reach more beneficiaries, and the advancements made on the Affirmative Action agenda to promote gender equality and inclusion are just a few of the important initiatives she highlighted.

In order to improve the welfare and protection of children and vulnerable groups in the nation, both parties reiterated their commitment to ongoing cooperation.
