Captain Arnaud Bolelli and the crew of the French landing helicopter dock Tonnerre were honoured to be welcomed to Tema yesterday by Hon. Emelia Arthur.

The close collaboration between Ghana, France, and the international community in preserving the Gulf of Guinea, an area abundant in biodiversity and essential to trade, fisheries, and livelihoods, is reflected in this significant visit.

Piracy, trafficking, illegal fishing, and environmental deterioration are some of the issues facing the Gulf.

We are strengthening our ability to safeguard our waters and the future of coastal communities through initiatives like the SIREN Academy and collaborations like the Yaoundé Architecture.

Future combined drills at sea will focus specifically on illicit and unreported fishing, strengthening our officers’ and fisheries experts’ abilities and strengthening our partnership with the French Navy.

Enforcing the law is only one aspect of protecting our fisheries; other aspects include sustainability, stewardship, and preserving possibilities for future generations.

I would want to thank the Gulf of Guinea Commission, our French partners, and everyone else engaged for their unflinching support on behalf of the Government of Ghana.

Together, we will ensure that our waters remain a true source of life and development.
