A list of 25 private senior high schools (SHSs) that have been authorized to participate in the 2025 Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) under the Free SHS policy has been made public by the Ministry of Education.
In an effort to expand access to high-quality second-cycle education, especially in places where public SHSs are overcrowded, private SHSs have for the first time been included in the Free SHS program.
The chosen schools, which fall under Category E, are coeducational day schools located in each of the 16 regions.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has extended the deadline for school selection to Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in order to allow candidates more time to think about these new alternatives, according to a statement issued by Prince Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instruction Division.
These private schools are included in the Free SHS policy expansion pilot program, which is being implemented in partnership with the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS).
The program focuses on private schools in areas where public SHSs struggle with facilities and are unable to accept all eligible pupils.
The announcement said, “This milestone reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to equity and access in education.”
Additionally, it stated that the pilot project will be continuously watched and assessed in preparation for future expansion.
Selected schools are anticipated to go through preliminary assessments and capacity-building as part of the next phases in order to bring them into compliance with Free SHS operating standards.
Training, supervision, and infrastructure assistance will be coordinated by the Ministry, GES, and GNACOPS as needed.
