Following accusations that went viral on social media, the Ministry of Education has denied that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Computerised School Placement System is for sale.

According to a post credited to Gertrude Adzo Boklo, admission to Aburi Girls’ Senior High School is GHC 5,000.

In response, the Ministry has “initiated an immediate investigation into the matter,” according to Deputy Minister for Education Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, who called the accusations “a conspiratorial narrative to create the false impression that the BECE Computerised School Placement System is for sale.”

Dr. Apaak claims that efforts to contact the post’s author have failed since “her account messenger was deactivated shortly after the publication.”

He added that similar accusations have been made by other anonymous accounts and warned that the Ministry is working with the Cyber Security Authority, the National Security, and other organisations to find the perpetrators.

The BECE Computerised School Placement System is completely free, the Ministry of Education would like to make clear. Dr. Apaak emphasised that payment is never necessary in order to receive this service.

He promised that “swift and decisive action” will be taken against anyone found guilty and encouraged the public to report any instances of bribery attempts via designated hotlines.
