The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has not been removed, as the Ghana Police Service has refuted allegations to that effect.
The Ghana Police Service claimed that Dr. Akuffo Dampare is still at post and that any media reports implying that he has been asked to proceed on leave are untrue in a press release signed by ACP Grace Akrofi-Ansah, Director of Public Affairs for the agency.
The statement also restated the IGP’s commitment to his patriotic responsibilities to leave the service and to his mission of guiding the service in fulfilling its primary objectives.
It added exhorted Ghanaians to disregard the media speculations and circulation of the IGP’s removal and to handle such reports with the deference they merit.
This follows the submission of a report by the Parliamentary Committee investigating the purported plot by Mr. Bugri Naabu, former Commissioner of Police George Asare, and their allies to assassinate the IGP.
