Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, has made surprise trips to the Achimota and Ga North Municipal Hospitals in an attempt to evaluate the quality of healthcare and pinpoint areas in need of immediate improvement.

Critical sections at the Achimota Municipal Hospital, such as the maternity center, female ward, VIP ward, consulting unit, and pharmacy, were inspected by the Minister.

During his interactions with patients and workers, some of them voiced concerns about lengthy wait times, staff shortages, and service delays.

Room 7, which was unoccupied at the time of the visit, had a significant problem. The management clarified that delays were caused by the fact that three of the seven appointed employees were on leave and one was ill.

Staff at the Ga North Municipal Hospital brought attention to ongoing problems such as damaged anesthesia machines and other medical equipment, as well as regular network outages that interfere with service delivery, particularly processing related to the NHIS.

The NHIS co-payments and the antiquated state of the majority of medical equipment were also criticized. Employees requested assistance in updating outdated equipment.

After the visits, Hon. Akandoh addressed the media, pointing out the systemic flaws and emphasizing the need for improved equipment, more staff, and more oversight.

He restated the Ministry’s resolve to overhaul healthcare operations in order to enhance patient satisfaction and service results.
