President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the world’s largest calcined clay cement plant in the Tema Free Zones Enclave, hailing the project as a significant step forward in Ghana’s economic resurgence and sustainable manufacturing efforts.

The $110 million plant, developed by CBI Ghana Ltd, has an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes of environmentally friendly cement and uses limestone calcined clay technology to significantly reduce carbon emissions while maintaining the strength required for modern construction.

President Mahama stated that the commissioning is more than just the opening of a factory; it is a meaningful step toward repositioning Ghana as a premier industrial powerhouse in Africa.

The President also unveiled the government’s aggressive goal to raise manufacturing’s share of GDP to at least 15% by 2030. This goal is a major component of the administration’s economic transformation agenda, which aims to boost local production, grow industry, and generate long-term job opportunities.

President Mahama congratulated the management of CBI Ghana for advancing a project that strengthens Ghana’s position in the global shift toward low-carbon building materials and praised the leadership of the Ghana Free Zones Authority and the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry for their roles in facilitating the investment.

Designed to run around the clock in accordance with the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy, the facility is anticipated to boost employment throughout the value chain, lessen Ghana’s reliance on imported clinker, and help the nation achieve its goal of producing competitively for both domestic and export markets under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
