The newly established Domestic Violence Management Board attended a two-day orientation and training session hosted by the Domestic Violence Secretariat of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP).
The program’s goal was to increase the Board’s ability to oversee and give strategic direction in accordance with the 2007 Domestic Violence Act (Act 732).
In order to strengthen teamwork and improve the way they carried out their mandate, it also encouraged communication among members.

In her remarks, Minister Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey commended the members and emphasized the necessity of more robust institutional frameworks to tackle domestic violence, which continues to be a significant national issue.
She listed the Board’s statutory duties and highlighted important government programs led by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, such as:
– Establishment of 16 regional shelters with comprehensive services for survivors.
– Introduction of a Survivors Care Kit with free legal and medical support.
– Ratification of ILO Convention 190.
– Launch of the national “Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence and Sexual Harassment” campaign.
– Elevation of DOVVSU to a Directorate.

In her presentation on the Secretariat’s mission, Madam Malonin Asibi, the Head of the Secretariat, emphasized cooperation with the Board.
In addition to facilitating conversations on the new dynamics of gender-based violence, the chairperson assisted members in creating a preliminary work and action plan.
The Board’s role, effective governance techniques, the Secretariat’s 2025 work plan, and the government’s Reset Manifesto policy promises were also discussed in other sessions.
The Minister asked members to give their all to their responsibilities and promised ongoing assistance and sporadic engagements.
