Afoakwa Sarpong, the proprietor of Big Six Educational Complex, has been arrested by the Mamponteng District Police Command in connection with an alleged assault case involving the detention of two BECE (Basic Education Certificate Examination) candidates.

The two candidates lost out on the mathematics paper as a result of the June 16 event.

The owner allegedly put the students in jail for not paying the exam registration costs, according to a police news release.

“The arrest stems from a disturbing incident that occurred on 16th June 2025 during the just-ended Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).”

“Mr. Sarpong is alleged to have unlawfully prevented two Junior High School candidates (names withheld) from writing the Mathematics paper, citing their failure to pay registration fees,” the statement read.

The Kwabre East Municipal Education Director, Nana Adu Mensah Asare, along with the Education Directorate’s Public Relations Officer, Mavis Okyere Anane, submitted an official complaint, which resulted in the arrest.

Investigations have been launched by the police to determine the case’s facts. A lot of people condemned the incident.
