The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) claims that just one copy of the Prof. Oquaye Committee Report was compiled and sent to the National Council, and it has denied publishing any of it.

NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, who released the disclaimer, stated that the party was still reviewing the report’s contents and will provide pertinent details if needed.

False quotations claiming to be from the study and ascribed to political rivals, especially those in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), should be avoided, he cautioned.

In light of the 2028 elections, Mr. Frimpong asked party members to ignore such statements and keep their attention on the party’s reconstruction efforts.

Last Wednesday, the National Council of the party received the report from the 11-member committee headed by Prof. Oquaye that was entrusted with looking into the party’s loss in the general election of 2024.

Since then, there have been various quotes making the rounds on social media believed to be originating from the report.

Additionally, the party warned its leaders, communicators, and executives not to publicly support or disparage potential flagbearer candidates.

After carefully considering some offensive remarks made against some candidates, the party’s National Council issued the warning.

Any party executive or member who disobeyed the direction would be subject to consequences in line with the party’s constitution and code of conduct. The directive is in effect until nominations for presidential primaries are opened.

In order to preserve party unity, the party called on its stakeholders and members to work together.

A nine-member Constitutional Amendment Committee has been established by the party to examine and suggest changes to the party’s constitution.

At its meeting last Wednesday, the National Council established the committee, which is led by Frank Davies, the party’s Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee Chairman.

Patricia Appiagyei, the Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa; Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the MP for Ofoase Ayirebi; Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, the NPP’s Deputy General Secretary; Makafui Woanyah, the NPP’s Volta Regional Chairman; and Ebenezer Nartey, a former MP, serve as the committee’s secretary.

The mandate of the committee consists of:

  • Identifying provisions of the Party Constitution that require amendments to give effect to the recommendations of the Mike Oquaye Election Review Committee
  • Working on the recommendations of the 2021 Constitutional Review Committee chaired by Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin
  • Receiving proposals for constitutional amendments from party members and identifiable groups
  • Categorising proposals under various Articles and Clauses for ease of reference
  • Making appropriate recommendations to guide the debate at the National Annual Delegates Conference

To discuss the committee’s report, which would be presented as amendment motions for approval or otherwise, the party would convene an Extraordinary National Annual Delegates Conference in July of this year.
