The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region will recommence later this week, according to a statement made by Ernest Brogya Genfi, Deputy Minister for Defence, in response to the terrible incident that occurred last Wednesday and resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.
During a brief briefing, the Deputy Minister reassured the public that extensive safety measures are being implemented to stop a repeat of the stampede that happened during the enlisting procedure at El-Wak Sports Stadium.
Prior to the restart, Mr. Genfi underlined that the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence have examined the circumstances surrounding the incident and are putting better crowd control and emergency response procedures into place.
He asked prospective applicants to remain composed and to properly follow the new rules that will be announced prior to the resumption of the exercise.
Reforms and improved coordination were demanded as a result of the terrible incident, which raised national concerns about the way mass recruitment procedures are carried out.
Therefore, it is anticipated that the exercise will resume under far stricter safety regulations.
