Percival Kofi Akpaloo, the leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), was freed eight days after his detention.
When Akpaloo was arrested on September 3, 2025, he was accused of financial crimes such as money laundering, dissipation of public funds, fraud, and causing financial loss to the state.
When Kofi Akpaloo was released yesterday, Thursday, September 11, 2025, he told reporters that his arrest and detention had been politically motivated.
“They [EOCO] say they are conducting investigations. But it is politics as usual. My arrest and detention were due to my recent utterances about the government,” he said.
Police had granted Akpaloo bail with two conditions, including a GH¢10 million bond that needed to be justified and two sureties.
But because he failed to meet the requirements of the bond, he was held until Thursday.
