The second phase of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF Phase II) has officially concluded, marking a significant milestone in the city’s efforts to support youth-led climate projects. This announcement was made by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

The deadline for applications was Monday, April 14, 2025, according to Mr. Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the Assembly’s Public Relations Officer.

Over the last month, he revealed, the Assembly has received numerous bids from different applicants.

“We have recorded an impressive volume of submissions from youth-led organizations, student innovators, and grassroots networks, spanning a wide range of thematic areas, including climate education, sustainable waste management, urban agriculture, renewable energy, and the development of green public spaces,” he said.

Mr. Ankrah emphasized that the application period’s conclusion marks a significant milestone in the city’s ongoing endeavor to enable youth to spearhead creative, neighborhood-based climate action initiatives. He added that a thorough evaluation procedure would now start in order to assess the plans according to standards including creativity, viability, and compatibility with Accra’s climate resilience objectives.

He added, “Successful applicants will then receive support to implement their projects over six months. The selected projects will be announced soon,” he said.

All applicants and stakeholders who took part in the application process were thanked by the AMA’s PRO.

“We are grateful for the enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by our youth and partners. The Assembly remains resolute in promoting youth inclusion in climate action and continues to prioritize bold, locally driven solutions to build a greener, healthier, and more resilient Accra,” he said.

He gave the public his word that all major media outlets and the Assembly’s official communication channels would be used to disseminate any additional information about evaluation results and project implementation schedules.
