Today, Saturday, May 13, 2023, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is expected to choose a presidential candidate and parliamentary candidates for the general elections of 2024.
There were three candidates vying to be the flag bearer, however Dr. Kwabena Duffuor withdrew from the campaign just before the deadline.
On the eve of the primaries, he told media that despite his best attempts to raise attention to the election’s obvious flaws, he has been “left with no choice” than to go down that path.
Prior to this, Dr. Duffuor filed an interlocutory injunction that tried to halt the primary election process. Later, he dropped the lawsuit from court, clearing the path for the elections to proceed as planned.
The primaries are taking place concurrently around the nation. The former president John Mahama and the former mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu, are squarely in competition for the position of flag bearer today.
Some incumbent MPs and candidates are running unopposed, while the majority of parliamentary candidates will face opposition.
