The Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV, expressed extreme alarm with the current level of corruption in Ghana.

He stressed that political leaders who put their own interests ahead of the good of the country are what continue to make corruption the principal barrier to Ghana’s advancement. He emphasized the pressing need to stop this trend.

Togbe Afede condemned the pervasive and unrelenting corruption that has invaded the nation while speaking at the second Asogli Yam Festival Anti-Corruption Day Celebration in Ho.

He made the observation that Ghana’s political elite appeared to be involved in a brutal power struggle over the country’s riches, evoking colonial-era exploitation.

Togbe Afede emphasized the link between the extravagant expenditure on political campaigns and the ambition to control Ghana’s wealth, as opposed to a sincere desire for leadership.

He pointed out that as a result of this circumstance, Ghana had fallen behind its previous, optimistic trajectory and had failed to live up to the values of the 1992 constitution and the founding fathers’ vision.

The Agbogbomefia ascribed a number of issues, including poor planning, inconsistent economic management, incorrect monetary policies, dishonesty, partisanship, cronyism, and tribalism, for Ghana’s unstable economic predicament.

Togbe Afede agreed that corruption had permeated the nation’s culture more broadly and was not just a problem for politicians. He urged everyone to work together to fight corruption, stressing the importance of holding everyone accountable, including public officials who hide behind confidentiality and secrecy.

Togbe Afede said Ghana had the resources for a turnaround despite these obstacles.

He urged cooperation and a united effort to combat corruption while promoting integrity, toil, and a sincere love for the country.

He emphasized the value of leadership that encourages cooperation, values the truth, and shuns division.
Various dignitaries, including traditional and religious leaders, heads of government organizations and ministries, and political figures, took part in the anti-corruption event.
