The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Election Committee has clarified Akosua Frema Osei-Opare’s ability to vote in the party’s next special delegates’ conference.
The committee claims that NPP National Executive Committee (NEC) member Akosua Frema Osei-Opare is the chief of staff. She is qualified to vote because of her status, which qualifies her as the patrons’ representative at the NEC.
Concerns expressed by Alan Kyerematen’s campaign team, a former minister of trade and industry, forced the committee to provide an explanation. The team led by Alan Kyerematen had discovered certain abnormalities in the party’s Special Delegates Conference Register that raised concerns regarding the voting eligibility of a number of people, including the Chief of Staff.
The Alan for President (A4P) Campaign stressed how critical it is to address these issues before the scheduled super delegates’ conference on August 26 in a letter sent to the head of the Presidential Elections Committee on August 2.
Notably, the letter omitted details about the kinds of abnormalities or remarks in the register that gave rise to these worries.
The letter specifically addressed the status of the Chief of Staff, noting that “The Chief of Staff (Cos) has been listed to vote under the category of NEC.” The Office of COS, however, is not a member of the NEC according to the Constitution.
The Hon. Chief of Staff is therefore not allowed to vote. To promote openness and impartiality throughout the process, the campaign team argued for fixing these problems.
In response, the NPP Presidential Election Committee reiterated that Akosua Frema Osei-Opare is qualified to vote because she occupies a legitimate position on the National Executive Committee.
The situation of Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare was brought up. Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare is listed as a member of the National Executive Committee in the Party’s records.
She has the right to vote because she represents NEC’s customers, according to the Committee.
