Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, met with World Bank management today to talk about the government’s plans for the nation’s healthcare system as well as the Ministry’s strategic health priorities.

He emphasized that the government has set a lofty target to support the treatment of chronic illnesses not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by introducing the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, increasing medical tourism, building more CHPS compounds, and producing 60% of medications and vaccines domestically by 2040.
World Bank Practice Manager Rafiat Hasan reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to aiding the Ministry’s endeavors and talked about the different ways the international financial institution might help, such as through technical support, funding, and experience.
Additionally, she suggested a multisectoral approach to adolescent health, which is one of the World Bank’s top priorities.
She pointed out that in order to address the many and interrelated elements that affect teenage well-being, this strategy necessitates concerted efforts across several sectors, including education, healthcare, nutrition, and social protection.
Recognizing the importance of international relationships in accomplishing the Ministry’s objectives, Hon. Akandoh embraced the chance for further cooperation.
