The Minerals Commission has been tasked by Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, to make sure the mining industry runs efficiently and responsibly, stressing the value of sustainable practices and adherence to laws for the good of the country and its citizens.
Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah spent time interacting with the personnel at his first formal meeting with the Commission, which oversees all mining operations in the nation, exhibiting warmth and friendship.
Speaking before the Commission on Monday, April 7, 2025, the Minister underlined how important it is to the government’s initiatives to change the mining industry, especially in reducing illegal mining, or galamsey.
He praised the employees for their commitment over the years but emphasized that the ongoing problem of illicit mining necessitates drastic organizational adjustments at the Minerals Commission.
He demanded a thorough redesign of the licensing system and a revamp of mining regulations.
“We need to reset the Minerals Commission, not just to improve its public image, but to restore confidence in its ability to regulate the sector effectively and eliminate illegal mining,” he stated.
The Minister urged employees to prioritize patriotism and selflessness in their work while closely adhering to laws and regulations. He assured them of his dedication to their well-being and career advancement and promised an open-door policy.
“We must change how we operate at the Minerals Commission,” he declared.
“When people hear of the ‘Minerals Commission,’ they should think of a team of dedicated, principled professionals who stand firm for Ghana.
Everyone in the sector must comply with the set rules and respect our strict guidelines.”
He commended the first moves made and underlined the necessity of teamwork:
“With your support, we can revolutionize the licensing regime, but success depends on your cooperation.”
After his speech, Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah spoke with employees, addressing important issues and restating his commitment to their advancement. He also took a tour of the Control Room, the Minerals Commission’s internal facility for keeping an eye on excavators and other vital mining machinery.
