Two people have been sentenced to a combined 17 years in jail by an Adentan Circuit Court for their roles in the theft of electronic devices valued at GHC298,900 in Okponglo, Accra.
The 33-year-old businessman James Ugochukwu Mwobi was sentenced to 12 years in prison for charges of theft, unauthorized entrance, and causing damage.
Solomon Otis, his accomplice, 36, received a five-year term for acquiring stolen items dishonestly and conspiring to conduct a crime.
The two defendants entered guilty pleas to the allegations.
Based on their own pleas, the court, presided over by Mrs. Sedinam Awo Kwadam, found them guilty.
Awudu Mamudu, popularly known as Focus, is an accomplice who is still at large.
Frederick Sackey is the complainant; Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo of the prosecution told the court as much.
Mwobi and Otis are business partners who operate in Kwame Nkrumah Circle, according to Chief Inspector Lanyo.
Sackey went to his Okponglo store on September 26, 2024, where he offers tablets, smartphones, computers, and their accessories.

According to the prosecutor, one of the stolen tablets—serial number GPSZ2024070418582—was discovered in a showcase at Kwame Nkrumah Interchange on September 29, 2024.
The tablet was eventually found after Stephen Akwaboah, the showcase’s owner and a witness in the case, was taken into custody on September 30, 2024.
Stephen Akwaboah recognized Charles Chubike Eze, a phone dealer who was later taken into custody, the prosecution told the court.

Eze said Otis sold him the other stuff and the stolen iPad.
After being taken into custody, Otis revealed that he had bought two of the tablets from an unidentified person, whose whereabouts he was unable to provide.
On October 3, 2024, the prosecution said the court, police received information suggesting that two laptops that matched the complainant’s stolen belongings had been found at Tiptoe Lane, Circle.
After sending a squad of officers to the scene, they managed to capture Chukuemeka Itiri, a witness in the case.
According to the prosecution, Itiri disclosed that Mwobi had handed him the laptops to sell.
He then led the authorities to Plus One Lodge, the location of Mwobi’s arrest.
Following that, a check of Mwobi’s room turned up a laptop and two tablets that were positively confirmed as the complainant’s.
According to the prosecution, investigations showed that Mwobi broke into Sackey’s storehouse at Okponglo on September 26, 2024.
After breaking through the metal window bars with pliers, he entered the room and took 51 tablets and 91 laptops.
According to the prosecution, Mwobi called Otis and Mamudu that same day to let them know he wanted to get rid of the stolen goods.
When Otis and Mamudu visited Mwobi in his room at Plus One Lodge on September 26, 2024, they were given 22 laptops and 21 “Oteeto” tablets.
According to the prosecution, Otis paid Mwobi GHc1,000 in advance before they took off with the stolen goods.
The prosecution claims that Mwobi admitted to the crime, and Otis acknowledged selling 19 of the tablets to a witness named Victoria Osei Praku for GHc250 apiece.
Praku was convinced by him that his brother had brought the drugs in from Dubai.
The prosecution claimed that they had located the 19 pills.
It stated that Mamudu fled into hiding after learning of the situation.
Mwobi guided the authorities to Sackey’s store on October 4, 2024, and established that it was there that he had taken the laptops and tablets.
According to the prosecution, attempts were still underway to capture Mamudu despite the recovery of 22 tablets and three laptops.
