Six people have been arrested by the Ghanaian police for reportedly posing as security guards and intimidating several Chinese citizens in Agona Akwakwa, which is close to Mankrong Nkwanta in the Central Region.
The Agona Swedru District Police Command received a distress call at around 12:00 p.m. on May 6 regarding six men who had stormed the premises of S. I Jun Manufacturing Company Limited in a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number GW 8887 V, according to a press release released by the police’s Central Regional Public Affairs Unit on May 7.
According to the police, two of the suspects were dressed in civilian clothes, one was in a military uniform, and three were wearing camouflage uniforms from the Ghana Immigration Service.
The suspects were accused of beating and harassing certain Chinese nationals at the company while claiming to be National Security agents.
The statement claims that as soon as the information was received, a police squad was sent to the scene.
Three Chinese nationals, named as Man Guan, Chin Min, and MA Kaixiang, were handcuffed when officers arrived and spotted the car parked on the property.
Agyemang Benjamin, 32, Mahama Iddrisu Dawuda Seidu, 48, Ofori Isaac, 35, Adom Bills, 32, Hayford Boafo, 47, and Ato Mchenry, 48, were the suspects, according to the police.
According to the statement, all six suspects were taken into custody and are currently helping with investigations.
The police went on to say that in order to confirm the suspects’ identities, National Security, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Military Police had been contacted.
The Central Regional Public Affairs Unit’s Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie stated that the case is still being investigated.
