The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has partnered with the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) and the National Communications Authority (NCA) to commemorate the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on December 3, 2025.
The event, held under the global theme “Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress” and the national theme “Access to Technology and Assistive Devices for Persons with Disabilities,” brought together government officials, development partners, disability rights advocates, and technology industry stakeholders to highlight progress and accelerate action towards disability inclusion.

In her keynote address, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening policy frameworks, expanding social protection interventions, and collaborating with agencies such as the NCA, Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, Ministry of Education, and development partners to promote access to digital tools and assistive devices.
She emphasized that technology is no longer a luxury, but rather a must that determines whether people with disabilities can learn, work, communicate, and actively participate in national progress.
The Minister also stated that the review of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2006 (Act 715), has been completed and is undergoing final consultations before being submitted to Cabinet.
Mr. Joseph Atsu Homadzi, President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFD), emphasized the significance of making sure that people with disabilities are not left out of Ghana’s digital transformation.
He emphasized that everyone is affected by disability issues and asked organizations to create digital systems and regulations that take into account the requirements of people with disabilities.
The Minister publicly launched a new book titled “An Evolution of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations” alongside other dignitaries as part of the celebration.
The book, written by a longtime disability advocate, chronicles the development, history, and action of Ghana’s disability movement.
In order to guarantee that no individual with a handicap is left behind in Ghana’s development goal, the Ministry reiterated its dedication to collaborating with all relevant parties.
