Two sizable improvised sheds that served as an auto-mechanic workshop behind the Awudome Cemetery next to the SSNIT Pension House were demolished by a task group of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in spite of strong warnings against encroachment written on a wall at the location.

The move, which took place on Monday morning, was a component of an enforcement operation after the Assembly, under the leadership of Accra Mayor Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, issued a number of directives directing residents to leave the government-reserved area.

A weighing scale that belonged to scrap dealers who had converted a plot of ground in front of a Catholic church at the Awudome Roundabout into a scrap collection point was also seized as a result of the operation.

Additionally, the task force stopped renovations on a shop after the individuals working on the project refused to provide the necessary permissions when the team asked for them.

Speaking following the exercise, Mr. Douglas N.K. Annoful, the AMA’s Coordinating Director, clarified that the Assembly was taking action to safeguard public lands and enforce city laws in response to several warnings to operators and residents who had disobeyed official orders.
