The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the deployment of inspection teams around the country commencing Monday, February 2, 2026, to ensure strict adherence to licensing criteria in the jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication, and gold refining sectors.
In a notification issued by its Compliance Directorate, GoldBod stated that it has discovered that some jewellery producers, fabricators, and gold refineries are operating without legal permits, in violation of Act 1140.
The Board emphasised that only licensed individuals are permitted to engage in gold trading and related activities in Ghana.
The public was warned by GoldBod that operating without a current GoldBod licence is illegal and subject to legal penalties.
It remembered that all current jewellery makers, fabricators, and gold refineries were instructed to resume regular activities by December 31, 2025, in a press release dated October 22, 2025.
“With the deadline now elapsed, GoldBod inspectors will be deployed nationwide to ensure that only licensed operators are engaged in jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication and gold refining businesses,” the statement stated.
A few jewellery manufacturing companies that successfully finished the licensing process and were properly granted GoldBod jewellery and fabrication licenses were commended by the Board in the meantime.
The licensed entities include Sourcechain Enterprise, Shepaj Limited Company, Koshuuz Enterprise, M.J Jewellery Limited Company, Mahmoud’s Jewellery Limited, Agyaba Jewellery, Gold Casting, Goldlovers GH Limited, Wappahs Jewellery, Mahalaxmi Ghana Limited, and Sahara Jewellery Limited Company.
GoldBod reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the laws and regulations governing the gold trading sector, emphasizing that the measures are aimed at promoting accountability, transparency and regulatory compliance within the industry.
