The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed has been announced the victor of the recently concluded Ayawaso East by-election.

This occurs after he won the seat with 10,884 votes, or 63% of all votes cast.

Out of almost 50,000 registered voters, just 16,928 people cast ballots in the election, which took place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in 113 polling places throughout the Greater Accra Region.

Baba Ali Yusif of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), his nearest opponent, received 4,009 votes, or 23% of the total.

With 1,885 votes, independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda came in third, followed by Liberal People’s Party (LPG) candidate Ibrahim Iddrisu with 43 and independent candidate David Kanor with 104.

Nasser Toure Mahama, the current Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, died in January 2026, necessitating the by-election.

Speaker Alban Bagbin is anticipated to swear Baba Jamal into Parliament during the upcoming House session.
