Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang paid a visit to the Accra New Town Experimental School this morning following the collapse of a multi-story structure on the grounds, where she was given a full update on the situation and ongoing rescue operations.
Along with representatives from the Ghana Armed Forces (48 Engineer Regiment), Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, National Ambulance Service, and NADMO, she was accompanied by Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister of the Interior.
23 victims have been recovered thus far as a result of rescue attempts, but sadly, three lives have been lost.
The Vice President praised the emergency services’ prompt and well-coordinated reaction and recognised the vital role local residents played as first responders in the early phases of the disaster.
Operations are anticipated to continue over the next few days in order to completely remove the debris.

The Vice President expressed sympathy to the impacted families on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and emphasised the necessity of going beyond emergency response to address the underlying causes of such incidents, stressing the significance of rigorous adherence to building regulations and accountability at all levels.
Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police, welcomed the Vice President when she visited victims receiving care at the Police Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital.
Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, joined her at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) as she reassured sufferers of the government’s complete support at this trying time.
