Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, has denied accusations that members of national supporters groups had received mass visa denials ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He stated that despite multiple fruitful interactions between the Ministry and the Embassy on visa arrangements, organised fans being organised by the Ministry had not yet gone through their visa interviews at the US Embassy.

More than 147 Ghanaian supporters were allegedly denied visas, according to earlier reports, which caused a great deal of worry and intense discussion over the possibility of local supporters attending the world championship.

“I have read many reports that suggest visa refusal and that only 18 Ghanaian fans have been given visas. The truth of the matter is that the organized fans that the Ministry is leading are yet to submit themselves to the American Embassy for Visa interviews,” he noted.

He indicated that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation had not chosen the people or organisations that had been refused visas as fans.

In order to prevent disseminating false information and inciting fear prior to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency asked some media outlets to confirm information with the Ministry before publishing.

Major cities including New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Toronto, Vancouver, and Mexico City will host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
