The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has opened applications for the employment of 400 revenue collectors as part of efforts to improve revenue mobilisation and support the government’s 24-hour economic plan.
The recruiting, which is intended to offer work opportunities for citizens, is part of the government’s 24-hour economy agenda, which aims to boost productivity, create jobs, and promote continuous economic activity throughout the country.
The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, stated that selected applicants would be hired and deployed to various sub-metropolitan regions, markets, business districts, transportation terminals, and other approved revenue sites within its jurisdiction.
He explained that the experiment was part of ongoing efforts to improve internally produced finances, prevent revenue leakages, and create a more open, responsible, and efficient tax collection system.
The Mayor stated that improving income mobilisation was vital to the delivery of key services such as sanitation management, market enhancement, road maintenance, public health services, drainage works, street lighting, and other development initiatives.
According to him, the capital city played a significant role in the execution of the 24-hour economy policy, owing to its concentration of markets, commercial centers, transportation services, hotel facilities, and night-time economic activity.
He stated that a more effective tax collecting system will assist supply the resources required to support enterprises, improve urban services, and create an atmosphere conducive to economic activity beyond traditional working hours.
In order to enable collectors to perform their duties professionally and in compliance with the Assembly’s approved guidelines, Mayor Allotey stated that individuals involved in the recruitment exercise would receive training in revenue collection procedures, customer relations, accountability, reporting systems, digital payment processes, and ethical conduct.
The head of the AMA urged everyone to report any unauthorised individual who tried to collect money on behalf of the Assembly.
