The Kristo Asafo Mission has strongly denied reports that its leadership, accompanied by military personnel, visited the Kantanka Museum at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region to exhume the remains of its late founder, Emeritus Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
The church described the reports as false, insisting that the visit to the museum on Sunday, September 6, 2026, was strictly related to security, property inspection and inventory-taking.
The Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations and Projects at the Kristo Asafo Mission, Dr Kwasi Agyei Safo, dismissed the reports, describing claims that the church leadership and soldiers had gone to exhume the remains of Prof. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka as a fallacy.
“The speculation out there that the leadership of the Church and some soldiers went there to exhume the body of Papa is a fallacy. It’s a lie.”
Why Kristo Asafo Officials Visited Kantanka Museum
According to Dr Agyei Safo, church officials visited the Kantanka Museum in Mpota together with Goldman Security Limited, a private security company contracted to protect the church’s properties.
He explained that the decision followed the revocation of the licence of the church’s former private security company by the Ministry of the Interior.
The Kristo Asafo Mission subsequently engaged Goldman Security Limited to provide security for its installations and properties, including the Kantanka Museum.
Dr Agyei Safo said Goldman Security personnel had visited the facility on Thursday and Saturday to prepare for the transition before accompanying church officials to the museum on Sunday.
He explained that the inspection was necessary to assess the facility and document the church’s properties through a comprehensive inventory.
Church Says Inventory Was Necessary to Protect Its Properties
The Kristo Asafo Mission official said the inventory exercise was intended to prevent future disputes over missing property.
He explained that church representatives needed to inspect the facility and document its contents so that there would be a clear record of the items located at the museum.
“We need to be there to make an inspection and take inventory of the entire facility, so that tomorrow, no one would come and say that they went there and something got missing.”
Soldiers Arrived During Disagreement at Museum
Dr Agyei Safo further explained that tensions reportedly emerged after security guards at the Kantanka Museum denied the church officials and their private security team access to the premises.
According to him, the guards insisted that the church representatives needed authorisation from former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo or media personality Osebo the Zaraman before they could enter the facility.
He said military personnel subsequently arrived at the location to help de-escalate the situation.
According to Dr Agyei Safo, the soldiers verified the church’s security arrangements but were also denied access to the premises.
Church Questions Claims About Exhumation
The Kristo Asafo Mission official also questioned how the church could have attempted to exhume the remains of its late founder when the key to the mausoleum is reportedly in the possession of the church leadership.
He asked:
“The mausoleum key is with the Church leadership. So how could they go there to exhume the body?”
Dr Agyei Safo maintained that there was no attempt to exhume the remains of Prof. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
He reiterated that the church’s presence at the Kantanka Museum in Gomoa Mpota was solely connected to security arrangements, inspection of the facility and documentation of the church’s properties.
The Kristo Asafo Mission has therefore rejected the exhumation allegations and urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that its leadership visited the museum to remove the remains of its late founder.
